Cave Nativity Piece (2)

The piece depicts a cave-like Nativity scene, with mottled brown 'stone' wall and a 'window' to the hills of Bethlehem with the Christmas star shining down from the night sky. Mary and Joseph hold Baby Jesus. It measures 27 inches X 40 inches (just under 3 feet by almost 3 1/2 feet).

Holy Family ~ Black Backdrop

This simple piece has the Holy Family with a solid black backdrop, so your eye immediately jumps to Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. With Mary in a deep red and Joseph primarily in a dark forest green, the hues match the traditional colors of Christmas decor.

This piece is 32 inches X 42 inches (just under 3 feet X 3 1/2 feet)

Holy Family ~ Pewter Backdrop

This simple piece depicts the Holy Family; Mary, Joseph tenderly hold Baby Jesus, on a deep pewter colored background. Mary is clothed in a rich scarlet colored velvet that has a few sequins accenting the stitching, and Joseph is in a mottled gold/brown velvet.

This piece measures 36 inches by 42 inches (3 feet by 3 1/2 feet)

Large Complete Nativity Scene

The piece depicts an entire Nativity scene. The three wisemen bring their gifts and the shepherds come with a sheep, as Joseph hovers besides Mary, holding Baby Jesus. The sheep is even fuzzy!

This piece measures 75 inches x 83 inches.

Horizontal Bethlehem Nativity Night

Christmas Eve in Bethlehem unfolds before your eyes in this art piece. The rolling hills are shades of green, and the Christmas star shines brightly in the mottled blue evening sky. A path leads from the palm trees and buildings in the city above down to the stable where Mary and Joseph are depicted bending over the manger.

It measures 42 inches X 82 inches (3 1/2 feet by almost 7 feet).

Pieces

I'm going to start adding pictures of pieces today(scroll below) and then additional pieces over the course of the next few days. Exact measurements on these two pieces will be added tomorrow.

Unfortunately, no matter how good I get the lighting when I take the photos, colors aren't nearly as nice in picture as in person. For instance, the photos of Mary in the long horizontal full Nativity picture, her headscarf is actually a very rich, eggplant/purple hue, but it appears darker in photos.

Each piece is unique, hand-sketched and then pieced, made with crushed velvet and other velvet textiles, mounted and backed with solid black, and machine quilted.

Cave Nativity Scene

This piece seems to get the quickest immediate reaction when people see it and is probably still my personal favorite. The mottled velvet used for the rocks of the cave is one I've not been able to find anything I like nearly as well, so I've been steering away from other cave-like Nativity settings, even though they are very realistic, because other velvets just aren't doing it justice!
